Almost Home

“My vision of the future is no longer of people taking exams and proceeding from secondary school to University but of passing from one stage of independence to a higher, by means of their own activity and effort of will.”

Dr. Maria Montessori

Almost Home is an optional after- school program available to all Waypoint students ages 3 and up who are fully independent with toileting. The Almost Home program is situated in a 4,000-square-foot building on campus with multiple classrooms, a large kitchen, and an inviting living area that creates a home-like atmosphere.

The dedicated outdoor area at Almost Home has a sandbox and two playgrounds for Primary and Elementary aged children. The program also has bikes and trikes, swings, and a large covered patio with picnic tables. Almost Home is designed to foster free play based on Montessori principles.

The Almost Home atmosphere is centered around enjoying a multitude of puzzles, educational
games, toys, books, and crafts.

It is a place that the Waypoint child can rest and relax after a
day of work in their classrooms. This program holds a Childcare License from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and is available to Waypoint students during the year. It remains open during Staff Development days and Conference days, as well as after school and during the summer months as an option for families that need additional care for their child.

Almost Home is billed monthly and is available either 3 days a week or 5 days a week. Primary half day students may attend from 12:30 pm-3:30 pm or from 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm. Primary Extended Day students and Elementary students may attend from 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm.

Almost Home is a favorite for the children as they are allowed more time with their friends in a warm and inviting setting. Staff are required to have 24 yearly staff development hours that center on child development, as well as safety courses like CPR and First Aid. Almost Home staff read books to the children, engage with the children in activities, and support the transition from classroom to aftercare.

Enrollment

A separate application is required for admission into the Almost Home program, along with a one-time application fee per child of $100. All children and parents new to Almost Home will meet with the Almost Home Director at least one week prior to beginning the program. Each child's Immunization Records and School Authorization Form must be current and on file in the office to be eligible to attend Almost Home. Priority admission will be given to applicants enrolling for five days per week.

Summer

Almost Home is open until 6:00 pm throughout the summer, complementing our Waypoint Montessori summer classes. Registration packets for our summer program are available in late spring.
